Mystery child pneumonia outbreak reported in China hospitals

"Chinese hospitals have been “overwhelmed with sick children” as an outbreak of pneumonia escalates in cities across the country.....ProMed – a large, publicly available surveillance system which monitors human and animal disease outbreaks worldwide – issued a notification detailing a reported epidemic of “undiagnosed pneumonia” in children.
It was a ProMed alert in late December 2019 that brought a mystery virus later named Sars-Cov-2 to the attention of many doctors and scientists, including senior officials at the World Health Organization. ProMed said: “This report suggests a widespread outbreak of an undiagnosed respiratory illness ... It is not at all clear when this outbreak started as it would be unusual for so many children to be affected so quickly. The report does not say that any adults were affected suggesting some exposure at the schools.” Yahoo

Mystery dog disease sweeping U.S.

"Veterinary laboratories in multiple states are looking into a new, unusual disease that's been threatening the pet population and worrying animal health professionals, who are working tirelessly to determine the cause of the mysterious disease and work on cures. Described as a respiratory disease and pneumonia that doesn't respond to antibiotics, the symptoms in the poor pooches aren't unlike those of humans who acquire similar illnesses. Coughing, sneezing, discharge from the eyes or nose and general fatigue are tell-tale signs of the new disease.
It progresses quickly in some dogs, researchers say — a few of the furry patients they've seen have fallen severely ill from pneumonia in just 24 to 36 hours. And many dogs have died, but the actual number remains unclear as researchers attempt to pinpoint the cause of the mystery sickness, said Kurt Williams, director of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University." The 78-year-old politician, who was European Parliament vice-president between 2009 and 2014, was described shortly after the shooting as a "staunch supporter" of Iran's opposition movement and the campaign for human rights in Iran over 25 years.
