AfD Sweeps Saxony-Anhalt Election: "Signal To Berlin"

"In a political earthquake, the AfD has taken a massive lead, per exit polls, at the Saxony-
Anhalt election in what the party's state leader hailed as sending a resounding "
signal to Berlin."
"The exit polls, published by German public television stations, suggested that the party, known by its German initials AfD, would win between 39 and 41 seats in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt," NY Times reports. "That would leave it just short of an absolute majority of 42, but far ahead of its nearest rival."

Trump welcomes Russia at G20 despite EU tantrum

"President Donald Trump welcomed the presence of a senior Russian delegation at the G20, ignoring protests from EU officials who refused to appear alongside Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in the gathering’s traditional “family photo.”
Siluanov arrived in Asheville, North Carolina for the two-day meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors on Monday at the invitation of the Trump administration. His first in-person appearance at the forum since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022 immediately drew protests from European delegates.
German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil called the decision to treat Siluanov as a regular participant a “troubling” signal. Other EU officials reportedly threatened to boycott the photo unless the Russian official was excluded, according to the Washington Post.
Trump brushed aside the criticism when asked about Siluanov’s visit.
“We’re going to see what happens, but we like getting along with everybody,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “One of the reasons that I’m so successful, I get along with everybody.”
Unlike the Europeans, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held a bilateral meeting with Siluanov. Moscow said the two discussed Russian-U.S. cooperation on financial issues and coordination within the G20." RT

Malaria outbreak kills two workers at Germany’s busiest airport

"Two employees at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport have died in a rare malaria outbreak caused by infected mosquitoes believed to have been accidentally brought in by plane from a malaria-endemic country.
The outbreak began in early July, according to the Frankfurt Public Health Department. The first worker died shortly afterward, with the malaria diagnosis confirmed posthumously. Authorities traced the outbreak to the airport, where operator Fraport set traps and captured several mosquitoes, sending them for genetic analysis to determine their origin. Staff were advised to seek medical attention if symptoms developed.
In mid-July, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
Germany’s federal disease-control agency, confirmed four cases among airport employees." RT

Hundreds dead across Europe as heatwave shatters records

"A scorching heatwave has killed hundreds of people across Europe this week, with Spain reporting the highest death toll as temperatures surged past 40C (104F) and records were shattered across the continent.
Spanish
authorities have linked more than 200 deaths to the extreme heat, according to the country’s mortality monitoring system. Germany has reported more than 20 deaths, many of them drownings as people sought relief in rivers, lakes, and pools. France has confirmed several heat-related fatalities, including children, while Italy has also reported multiple deaths as hospitals treated growing numbers of patients suffering from heatstroke and dehydration.
The heatwave has engulfed much of Western and Southern Europe, with Paris recording its hottest June day on record at 40.9C and
Britain registering its highest June temperature ever at 36.4C. Switzerland also set a new June record, while authorities across the region issued red alerts, closed schools, canceled train services and urged residents to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day." RT

Italian Woman Beheaded as Attacker Recites Passages From a Book. Yeah, THAT Book.

"And so in Italy recently, a woman was beheaded, in accord with commands found in the holy book of a rapidly growing segment of Italy’s population, and in case anyone remained determined to miss the point of what he had done (as many European authorities are), the perpetrator helpfully quoted from that book in justification of his actions. Welcome to the new Europe.
The
Italian-language Firenze Today reported Friday that Issam Chlih, “a 29-year-old homeless Moroccan national,” is “the sole suspect in the murder of Silke Sauer,” who was “a 44-year-old German woman found decapitated near an abandoned farmhouse in the park of the former CNR site in Scandicci.” CNR is the National Research Council, an Italian government agency devoted to scientific and technological exploration.
Preliminary Investigations Judge (GIP) Roberta Di Maria ordered Chlih detained “due to the risk that Chlih might flee or reoffend.”
Issam Chlih, however, is not your average hardened criminal or garden-variety recidivist. This is clear from the details of what happened on the fateful night in which Chlih beheaded Silke Sauer. “According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction,” Firenze Today notes, “Issam Chlih and Silke Sauer were together on the evening and had stopped at a bar in Florence near the Leopolda station. Witnesses reported that Chlih shouted incoherent phrases and harassed customers. Police arrived at the scene after the bar manager called the emergency number (112).”
Early in the morning of the following day, however, “they returned to Scandicci by tram. Video surveillance cameras captured them walking toward the abandoned farmhouse. They reportedly began arguing right near the building.” It was at this point that “other homeless individuals present in the park at the former CNR site reportedly heard screaming and a male voice reciting verses from the Qur'an, shouting that the devil had taken possession of the woman. Immediately afterward, a female voice—presumably Silke Sauer’s—was heard shouting ‘stop’ in Italian.”
Issam Chlih did not stop. And “the following day, in a state of agitation, Chlih reportedly drove away anyone approaching the dog park adjacent to the farmhouse. Passersby called emergency services, and the twenty-nine-year-old was admitted to Torregalli Hospital. The next day Silke’s body was discovered.”
How could something like this have happened? Well, that ain’t exactly rocket science. What Qur'an verses could Issam Chlih have been reciting? These are good candidates: “When you meet the unbelievers, strike the necks...” (47:4) And: “When your Lord inspired the angels, I am with you. So make those who believe stand firm. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Then strike the necks and strike their fingertips.” (8:12)." PJM

Ukraine’s backer blasts Zelensky over tribute to Nazi collaborators

"Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Warsaw’s support for Kiev could become increasingly driven by hard national interests. The criticism follows Zelensky’s move to honor World War II-era Ukrainian nationalist paramilitaries responsible for massacres of Poles and Jews by naming a commando unit after them.
In May, Zelensky decreed that the Special Operations Center North would bear the honorary title ‘Heroes of the UPA,’ referring to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).
The OUN sought to establish an ethnically and religiously homogeneous Ukrainian state and collaborated with Nazi Germany during the early stages of the invasion of the Soviet Union. The UPA was formed in 1942 following a split between much of the OUN leadership and the Germans.
Ukrainian nationalists killed an estimated 100,000 Polish civilians in what is now western Ukraine from 1943-44. The massacres remain a major source of tension between Warsaw and Kiev.
President Karol Nawrocki has called for Zelensky to be stripped of the Order of the White Eagle, the country’s highest state distinction, highlighting that a nation honoring “bandits and murderers” is not yet fit to join “the European family.”
Earlier in May, the Ukrainian authorities rolled out full state honors for the remains of Andrey Melnik, the leader of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnik. Exhumed in Luxembourg, the couple was reburied in Kiev’s main military cemetery. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities announced plans to rebury Evgeny Konovalets, one of the founders of the, whose remains will be transferred from Rotterdam, the Netherlands." RT

Zelenskyy rejects associate status for Ukraine as unfair

"Ukraine should not be given a lesser “associate” status in the European Union without full
voting rights, President Volodymyr
Zelensky told EU leaders in a letter, calling a reported German proposal “unfair.”
The letter was addressed to European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
“It would be unfair if Ukraine were present in the European Union but remained without a voice. It is time to move forward on Ukraine’s membership in a full and meaningful way,” Zelensky wrote." Pravada

Putin seen with swollen face during Victory Day parade

"Over the weekend, Russia celebrated the 81st anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union
over
Nazi Germany in 1945 with an unusually muted parade that, for the first time in years, featured no armoured vehicles or ballistic missiles.
But few listened to Putin's claims at the rally of fighting a 'just' war against Ukraine's 'aggressive force[s]', instead focusing on his bulging cheeks.
Ukrainian commentator Anton Gerashchenko pointed to one unflattering image of the 73-year-old ex-spy, posting: 'The face of a 'victor' and the leader of a 'superpower'.
He joked: 'It seems sanctions have even reached Putin's Botox'." msn

Western companies miss deadline to exit Russia’s main drone production site

"Manufacturers from Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France, and the U.S. continue operating in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, where Russia produces thousands of Shahed drones capable of reaching the EU.
A huge industrial site in Tatarstan, a region in central
Russia, has gained notoriety for its outsized role in Russia's war against Ukraine.
The site, known as the Alabuga Special Economic Zone (SEZ), is
Russia's main facility for producing Shaheds, its primary long-range attack drones used in the war against Ukraine.
Launched after the Kremlin invaded
Ukraine in 2022, the drone plant has produced tens of thousands of Shaheds, known in Russia by the domestic name Geran." KI

Russia murdered Alexei Navalny with deadly frog poison, European countries conclude

"Alexei Navalny was murdered by Russia with a type of frog poison, the governments of the
United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany and The Netherlands have concluded.
In a joint statement on Saturday, the NATO countries said they were "confident" the Russian dissident had been poisoned by the Russian government with a "lethal toxin" known as epibatidine, which is found in South American poison dart frogs. The frogs aren't native to Russia." msn

24 combat planes left Spain to attack Iran while Sánchez boasted of 'no to war'

"From February 27 to March 5, there were 35 war-related movements at the two naval bases. They are the origin or stopover for aircraft operating in the Middle East.
"We could use their base if we wanted to. We could simply fly there and use it. No one is going to tell us not to use it." The words that Donald
Trump uttered alongside an unflappable Friedrich Merz last Wednesday at the White House seemed like just another provocation from the U.S. president, however, they held some truth. Although the government insisted from day one that the United States does not use the Rota and Morón bases for the attack on Iran, the reality is that these two enclaves are essential and strategic in the offensive. They are needed as a gateway to the Mediterranean, and they are being used. Also in this war against Iran.
There were no fewer than 40 flight movements to and from Morón and Rota. These include five landings and take-offs of a Beech aircraft that used the two bases in Andalusia and Torrejón for round trips to/from
Morocco. Particularly noteworthy are 24 combat aircraft take-offs - some aircraft on multiple missions - to operate in the attacks on Iran with a prior stopover in Germany and Italy.
Over the 7 monitored days, there are repeated flights of strategic transport aircraft - the C-17 Globemaster, C-130 Hercules, and C-5 Super Galaxy - along with several KC-135 Stratotanker tanker aircraft. The activity pattern shows clear peaks on three days - February 27, March 1, and March 5 - with up to eight daily movements, indicating a relatively intense logistical bridge activation. The reason? The
United States' strategy to be able to use the Spanish bases without directly exploiting them." msn

Iran Attacks UK Base After PM Green-Lights Strikes

"The
United Kingdom has confirmed that an Iranian kamikaze drone impacted one of its airfield’s in Cyprus, marking the first time the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East have directly impacted one of the nation’s military installation. The attack came just hours after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer — alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz — indicated that they were open to joining offensive strikes against Iranian missile and drone targets.
The impact was confirmed at RAF Akrotiri, a Royal Air Force installation located within the
United Kingdom’s Sovereign Base Area in southern Cyprus."

Rubio skips Ukraine backers’ gathering in Munich

"U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has abruptly skipped a meeting on Ukraine on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference “at the last minute,” according to the Financial Times.
The so-called Berlin Format gathering on Friday was attended by Kiev’s European backers – including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as the heads of the European Commission, the European Council, and NATO – who are seeking to insert their vision of a “just peace deal” into the US-led negotiations process.
An unnamed European official described the last-minute cancellation, officially blamed on alleged “scheduling conflicts,” as “insane,” while another told FT that without Rubio the entire meeting “lacked substance.”

Two Arrests After Brand-New German Warships Allegedly Sabotaged in Dock

"A joint European police operation has led to the arrest of two men over the alleged sabotage of German warships by dockyard workers, which could have “led to significant damage to the ships” had it not been detected. Two men, a 37-year-old Romanian citizen and a 54-year-old Greek, were arrested on Tuesday in a joint operation between German, Romanian, Greek, and European Union police agencies.
Their apartments were searched, and digital devices were recovered. German prosecutors say the men, who were both contractors employed at the Blohm und Voss shipyard in Hamburg, a subsidiary of the German defence giant Rheinmetall, where “several” warships were sabotaged last year.
It is alleged the Romanian man, who was employed as a painter, had poured 20 kilograms (45lbs) of abrasive steel shot blasting media into the main engine of the brand-new German navy corvette Emden.
It is further alleged that other acts of sabotage include “punctured fresh water supply lines, removed fuel tank caps, and deactivated safety switches in the ship’s electronics”. At least one other ship is said to have been sabotaged, but exactly how remains unclear. While it was revealed last year that incidents had occurred at the naval shipyard, it was only after the arrests that it was confirmed that the government had concluded they were acts of sabotage. Remarkably,
German newspaper Bild reports that at least one of the alleged saboteurs remained employed at the shipyard until this week and had access to the secure facility for over a year after the attempted sabotage was first discovered."

German cities grind to halt amid massive strike

"Tens of thousands of public transport workers have gone on strike in Germany, leaving cities
across the country paralyzed. The employees are demanding higher pay and better working conditions.
Meanwhile, freezing temperatures have arrived in many parts of the country, with commuters having to seek alternative modes of transportation.
Starting from 3am local time on Monday, most bus, tram, and subway services have been disrupted across almost all
German states, except for Lower Saxony.
The strike was called by the Verdi trade union, which represents approximately 100,000 workers." RT
