Russia Begins Heavy Retaliation On Ukrainian Capital

"Capital of Kiev has come under heavy missile attack. Missiles did not reach the center of the city, but the suburbs were impacted....... at least four ballistic missiles slammed into the capital region along with 57 Shahed drones sent, citing
Ukraine's air force, which also said its air defenses intercepted 53 of the drones. Some analysts view this ongoing Kursk cross-border offensive as a last-ditch and desperate ploy to force an escalation so that the US and NATO will more directly intervene, or else to gain leverage. Others say this is all PR-driven and that Ukrainian troops are being sacrificed in what's essentially a suicide mission for propaganda purposes and as but a temporary blow to Kremlin morale....." ZH

Nigeria's gov't concerned over increased Russia's influence in the protests

"Concerns are rising over the influence of Russia in the ongoing demonstrations in Nigeria.
Some protesters have been seen wielding Russian flags as they demonstrate in various states in Nigeria.
Authorities in the country have termed the act treasonous to the country's sovereignty.
The Russian embassy in Nigeria has distanced itself from allegations that it is influencing the demos.
Protests against economic hardship have persisted in several Nigerian states despite the president calling for an end to the demonstrations that have faced a crackdown from security forces. President Bola Tinubu met with security chiefs in Abuja's capital. A curfew was declared in northern Kaduna state — the sixth state to take such a measure since the protests began — after reports of looting.
The cost-of-living crisis is fueled by surging inflation, at a 28-year high, and government economic policies that have pushed the local currency to record lows against the dollar." AfricaNews

Mali expels Swedish ambassador amid strained relations with the West

"Mali has ordered Sweden's ambassador to leave the country within 72 hours because of what it called a “hostile” statement by a Swedish minister, the government said on Friday.
Ambassador Kristina Kuhnel’s expulsion comes after Mali on Monday announced it was severing diplomatic ties with Ukraine. Bamako’s decision to cut ties with Kyiv prompted Sweden's minister for international development cooperation and trade, Johan Forssell, to say on Wednesday that the government had decided to phase out bilateral aid to Mali due to its ties to Moscow.
"You cannot support Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and at the same time receive several hundred million kronor each year in development aid," Forssell said on social media platform X. Mali and its neighbours, Niger and Burkina Faso, also led by juntas, have pivoted away from their traditional Western allies to form closer ties with Russia." AfricaNews

Trump's campaign blames Iran for hacking internal communications ahead of elections

"Trump campaign claims its internal communications were hacked by Iranian government-linked actors, raising concerns over foreign interference in the US Presidential Elections 2024. This announcement followed a report by Politico, which disclosed that it had been receiving emails from an anonymous source since July. The emails allegedly contained authentic
documents from within Trump’s campaign, including a report on potential vulnerabilities of his running mate,
JD Vance. “These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the US, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our democratic process,” stated Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung.
It is pertinent to note that the Trump campaign's statement referenced a recently released report by Microsoft researchers, which claimed that hackers linked to the Iranian government had attempted to breach the account of a "high-ranking official" in a US presidential campaign in June. According to the report, the hackers first compromised the account of a former political advisor and then used it to target the official. Specific details about the targets' identities were not disclosed." IndiaTv

Ukraine asks Mexico to arrest Putin

"Ukraine has called on Mexico to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visits the nation for the inauguration of its new leader.
In a statement on social media on Wednesday, the Ukrainian Embassy in Mexico said it was “confident” that the country’s government would comply with the ICC order and “hand the suspect over” to the “judicial body” of the United Nations, seemingly referring to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Claudia Sheinbaum, the candidate of the ruling Morena party, won the June 2 presidential election. Putin congratulated Sheinbaum on her victory, noting that Mexico has traditionally been a friend and partner of Russia.
The North American country’s current President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador declared that Mexico would remain neutral in relation to the Ukraine conflict. He also criticized the neighboring US for providing aid to Kiev, and did not support international sanctions against Russia." RT
