Zelensky to skip key ‘Ukraine recovery’ event over Nazi-collaborator scandal

"Zelensky
will skip a major gathering of Kiev’s key backers in

Ukraine’s backer blasts Zelensky over tribute to Nazi collaborators

"Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Warsaw’s support for Kiev could become increasingly driven by hard national interests. The criticism follows Zelensky’s move to honor World War II-era Ukrainian nationalist paramilitaries responsible for massacres of Poles and Jews by naming a commando unit after them.
In May, Zelensky decreed that the Special Operations Center North would bear the honorary title ‘Heroes of the UPA,’ referring to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), the armed wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).
The OUN sought to establish an ethnically and religiously homogeneous Ukrainian state and collaborated with Nazi Germany during the early stages of the invasion of the Soviet Union. The UPA was formed in 1942 following a split between much of the OUN leadership and the Germans.
Ukrainian nationalists killed an estimated 100,000 Polish civilians in what is now western Ukraine from 1943-44. The massacres remain a major source of tension between Warsaw and Kiev.
President Karol Nawrocki has called for Zelensky to be stripped of the Order of the White Eagle, the country’s highest state distinction, highlighting that a nation honoring “bandits and murderers” is not yet fit to join “the European family.”
Earlier in May, the Ukrainian authorities rolled out full state honors for the remains of Andrey Melnik, the leader of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnik. Exhumed in Luxembourg, the couple was reburied in Kiev’s main military cemetery. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities announced plans to rebury Evgeny Konovalets, one of the founders of the, whose remains will be transferred from Rotterdam, the Netherlands." RT

Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko held talks in Minsk with a delegation led by U.S. special envoy John Cole. After the meeting, Lukashenko said the United States had proposed a deal to him “on various issues.” It later emerged that Belarus had released 250 political prisoners.
Trump later thanked Lukashenko for releasing more than 500 political prisoners and said he was “looking forward” to meeting him at the Peace Council." msn

Zelensky ready to fight for three more years – Polish PM

"Vladimir Zelensky expects Ukraine to be able to fight Russia for up to three more years,
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has told The Sunday Times. The Ukrainian leader’s reported remark comes as the EU is looking for new ways to fund Kiev, eyeing Russia’s frozen central-bank assets as an option.
In an interview with the British newspaper on Saturday, Tusk quoted Zelensky as saying that “he hopes that the war will not last ten years, but that Ukraine is ready to fight for another two, three years.” Should the conflict with Russia drag on longer, Zelensky is “anxious about the toll the war would take on its population and economy,” the Polish prime minister said." Poland deploys troops to German and Lithuanian borders

"Polish President Karol Nawrocki has ordered troops to the borders with Germany and
Lithuania. Warsaw recently reintroduced border controls, citing a surge in illegal immigration.
All three nations are members of the
European Union, which has been grappling with a refugee crisis since at least 2015, largely caused by upheavals in the Middle East and Africa, and later by the Ukraine conflict.
In a resolution released on Friday, Nawrocki said that the measures would take effect on October 5 and last until April 4, 2026.
In July,
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz revealed that 700 troops had already been deployed to the country’s Western frontier, with plans to send in up to 5,000 more military personnel to assist border guards." RT

WW3 Watch: British Fighter Jets Conduct NATO Mission over Poland After Russian Drone Incursion

"British Royal Air Force fighter jets conducted a NATO defense mission over the skies of Poland in response to Russian drone incursions, the Ministry of Defense has disclosed.
Earlier this month, Warsaw claimed that 19
Russian drones entered Polish airspace amid large-scale strikes throughout Ukraine, forcing the NATO ally to scramble its air forces and shoot down Russian drones since the start of the conflict in Eastern Europe. It was followed by Russian drones entering Romanian airspace and this week by three Russian fighters allegedly entering Estonian airspace.
In a show of force, two
British Typhoon fighter jets were deployed for a defensive mission across the skies of Poland on Friday evening, the UK’s Ministry of Defense said on Saturday.
The MOD revealed that the two jets, supported by an RAF Voyager aircraft, patrolled
Polish airspace to “deter and defend against aerial threats from Russia, including drones” before returning to the UK early Saturday morning."
