Cyclone Senyar leaves over 1 000 dead, millions affected across Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia

"Over 1 000 people have died and hundreds remain missing after rare Tropical Cyclone
Senyar brought severe flooding and landslides across
Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Senyar was a very rare cyclone, being only the second known system to form over the Strait of Malacca after Cyclone Vamei (2001). Like Vamei, Senyar was compact but well-organized, confirming that although extremely rare, equatorial tropical cyclones can occur under brief favorable conditions." W

Tropical Cyclone Senyar kills more than 300 across Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

"A low-pressure area developed over the Strait of Malacca and gradually organized into
Cyclonic Storm Senyar. The rare low-latitude system made landfalls in northern Sumatra and Peninsular
Malaysia, producing extreme rainfall and catastrophic flooding across Indonesia, Malaysia, and southern Thailand. At least 316 people were killed and thousands displaced before Senyar weakened into a low-pressure remnant." W

Philippines and Vietnam, Threatened by China, Sign Defense Deal

"The governments of the Philippines and Vietnam announced that they would sign a defense agreement that would expand their cooperation out of trade and into military and security projects, including “maritime” defense operations.
Beijing claims nearly the entire Sea, including maritime territory also belonging to the sovereign states of Taiwan, Brunei, and Malaysia, as well as waters off the coast of Natuna in Indonesia. The Chinese government has printed new false maps using a border for China known as the “nine-dash line” that severs entire island chains from their countries and gives them to China. When confronted about their false claims, Chinese officials incorrectly state that the territory in question has been Chinese “since ancient times.” Breitbart

Global confidence in Zelensky has ‘declined significantly’ – poll

"Some 46% of respondents have “not too much” trust in the Ukrainian leader or “none at all,” Pew Research has found. According to Pew, the results were mixed but only 40% of
respondents reported having at least “some” confidence in
Zelensky regarding world affairs. The reported levels of trust were the highest in Sweden (80%), the UK (72%), the Netherlands (66%), Canada (64%), and Japan (63%).
At the same time, Hungary (83%), Greece (72%), Tunisia (69%), Mexico (67%), Malaysia (61%), Italy (60%) were the most skeptical of Zelensky.
In many places a large portion of respondents – including 45% in India and 38% in South Africa and Sri Lanka – did not express any opinion of Zelensky whatsoever. Asked about their nation’s level of military and other support to Kiev, some 24% of Americans said it was “not enough,” while 31% said that Washington was providing “too much.” " RT

Malaysia’s Education Ministry has pulled out of the Frankfurt Book Fair

"Malaysia’s Education Ministry has pulled out of the Frankfurt Book Fair, and is accusing the
organizers of adopting
“a pro-Israeli position.” The ministry said in a statement that it “won’t compromise with Israel’s violence in Palestine, which clearly violates international laws and human rights.” The move is made in line with the Malaysian government’s stance “to always stand in solidarity and give full support to Palestine,” it added." Notorious Australian neo-Nazi joins Ukrainian forces to fight Russia

"Daniel Newman, ....extremist and a violent criminal, has flown from Australia to Ukraine to join the fight against Russian troops, Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) newspaper reported.
The development coincides with efforts by Canberra to prevent violent extremists from traveling to the war-torn country to gain combat experience, SMH said.
Newman first traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and then to Europe in February, before arriving in Ukraine this month, the report claims, adding that the man had supposedly told his associates he was planning to take up arms against Russian forces.
Newman is a member of an international extremist group named Combat 18, or C18. Founded in the UK in the early 1990s, it then expanded its network to other nations in Europe and beyond. The group’s members have reportedly been linked to several murders, including in the UK and Germany. In 2019, Canada put C18 on its terrorist list.
Newman himself was previously jailed for violent offenses in the Australian state of Victoria. He then helped Australia’s neo-Nazis forge connections with prison gangs as well as set up a cell in Tasmania." RT

Putin ‘supplied’ Buk missile that shot down Flight MH17 over Ukraine: investigators

"There are “strong indications” that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally signed off
on the use of the missile that shot down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014, international prosecutors concluded Wednesday. Members of the multinational Joint Investigation Team announced they would be closing the investigation as they revealed the findings, saying the evidence of Putin’s and other Russian officials’ involvement was not concrete enough to secure a criminal conviction.
“The investigation has now reached its limit,” prosecutor Digna van Boetzelaer told a news conference in The Hague. “The findings are insufficient for the prosecution of new suspects.”
Russia has denied any involvement with the downing of the civilian airliner flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, which killed 298 passengers and crew who hailed from more than a dozen countries, although nearly 200 were Dutch citizens." NYP
