Navalny was close to being freed in prisoner swap deal

"Associates of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny said Monday that talks were underway shortly before his death to exchange him for a Russian imprisoned in Germany. According to Pevchikh, Navalny and two US citizens held in Russia were supposed to be swapped for Vadim Krasikov. He was serving a life sentence in Germany for the 2019 killing in Berlin of Zelimkhan “Tornike” Khangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian citizen of Chechen descent. German judges said Krasikov acted on the orders of Russian authorities, who gave him a false identity, passport and resources to carry out the killing." France24

Russia Says Navalny Died Of Natural Causes As Western MSM Anoints Widow "Newest Opposition Leader"

"Russian authorities have said that the opposition activist Aleksei Navalny died of natural causes while in prison in a far northern Arctic penal colony. It comes nearly a full week after Russian prison services announced he died on Feb.16.
There's now a public fight over his body, and the question of a funeral service, as his family and legal team have complained they are being denied access to the deceased. Condemnations have come in from various Western countries, and have pointed at the Putin government, ultimately blaming the Kremlin for his death while in custody. Navalny's mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, has newly accused Russian officials of seeking to pressure her into accepting a secret burial, presumably to prevent it from becoming a major televised memorial event. Navalny's legal team has seen a death report saying his death was "natural" - however, few other specifics has been made public.
Meanwhile, Western press has already hailed that his wife Yulia is carrying on the work of team Navalny and will lead the political "opposition" against Putin. Name recognition inside Russia is a whole different question..." ZH

Russian Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny Dies In Jail

"Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died in a maximum-security prison in the country's far north, the Interfax news service reported Friday, citing the Federal Penitentiary Service.
47 year old Navalny, a major critic of President Vladimir Putin, vanished in December from a prison in the Vladimir region where he was serving a three-decade term for extremism and fraud charges that he had called political payback for his anti-Kremlin stance a decade ago. He had no expectations of getting out of jail as long as Putin was in power.
He later emerged in a remote Arctic prison camp, ending nearly three weeks in which his whereabouts were unknown, after he was moved from a prison outside Moscow." ZH

'Man Putin fears most' could be dead after vanishing from Russian prison

"Vladimir Putin’s most outspoken critic Alexei Navalny has been erased from the prison list where he has lived as an inmate for the past year – sparking panic among his lawyers and supporters.
It comes days after the
Russian opposition leader’s team raised concerns after he collapsed in his prison cell during what has been described as a ‘serious health-related incident’.
Aides had expected
Mr Navalny – described as the man Putin ‘fears most’ – to be moved to a harsher penal colony where Russian criminals and reoffenders are often sent.
But he has not been heard from in almost a week.
CEO of Hermitage Capital Bill Browder had pushed for Putin to face justice after the death of not only his former lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, but Alexander Litvinenko, Boris Nemstov and countless other Russians who spoke against the Kremlin.
Mr Browder told Metro.co.uk that Mr Navalny’s disappearance is alarming and disturbing, adding: ‘In the best case, he’s being transferred between prisons – in the worst case, something catastrophic has happened to him.
‘And the fact that the prison authorities are refusing to assist anyone in clarifying this is both horrific and sadistic.’" Metro
