Executions surge as Iran uses Israel tensions as cover for crackdown at home

"Iran has executed a record number of prisoners while global attention has been focused on the prospect it may go to war with Israel.
Human rights observers say the Islamic Republic is using international tensions as cover while it cracks down on dissent at home.
On Wednesday, the regime carried out its largest mass execution in more than two decades, putting 29 prisoners to death in a single day. Reza Resaei, a young Kurdish-Iranian protester arrested during demonstrations in 2022, was hanged in the western city of Kermanshah.
The 34-year-old was the tenth protester to be executed over the uprising sparked by the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, a 22 year-old detained by morality police for supposedly not wearing a hijab in September 2022.
Ms Shojaee said the surge in the number of executions in recent days has “shockedIranian human rights activists.
For the first time in the recent social movements in Iran, we have four imprisoned women activists who are sentenced to death,” she said." MS

Ukrainian attacks from Black Sea thwarted

"Overnight, a group of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) was detected on approach to the Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol.
Combat camera footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry showed them being destroyed in the water.
The on-duty fire systems destroyed seven unmanned boats in the Black Sea,” the ministry said, without elaborating.
Meanwhile, a group of Ukrainian commandos tried to land at the tip of the Kinburn Peninsula, overlooking the mouth of the Dnieper.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, four boats approached the Kinburn Spit, attempting to land a “sabotage and reconnaissance group.” Under covering fire from two of the boats, about a dozen troops stormed the beach. The Ukrainians quickly took casualties from a field of sea mines, however. Those who managed to reach the shore were “eliminated by small-arms fire,” the Russian military said. When they tried to retreat, they lost two boats to artillery and anti-tank missile fire." RT

Another Plot To Assassinate Trump Is Thwarted

"Federal authorities have charged Asif Merchant, a Pakistani national, in a plot to potentially
assassinate former
U.S. President Donald Trump, CNN reports. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York has unveiled a detailed complaint that reads like a script from a Hollywood movie, outlining Merchant’s elaborate plan to kill Trump. The 46-year-old, who has ties to Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq, reportedly masterminded the plot from overseas, traveling to the U.S. to recruit hitmen for the job." TP

Trump’s plane makes emergency landing

"Former US President Donald Trump’s Boeing 757 – known as ‘Trump Force One’ – was diverted on the way to a rally in Montana due to a mechanical problem.
The plane was heading to Bozeman, where Trump was expected to hold a campaign rally on Friday evening. It made an emergency landing in Billings, the staff confirmed. The two cities in Montana are around 140 miles (225km) apart.
His aircraft had mechanical issues, and he was diverted into the Billings-Logan Airport,” airport officials said, without elaborating on the issues. “He’s continuing to Bozeman on a private jet,” they added.
Trump’s campaign posted a video of him upon landing, in which he appeared unfazed. “I just landed in a really beautiful place, Montana,” he said while still aboard his plane.
So beautiful flying over, and you just look down, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” he added, noting that he has “a very high rating in Montana.”
The plane’s mechanical problem was not related to any security issues, and a “complete sweep of the airport” was conducted before Trump was allowed to board the new plane, NBC News reported, citing the Secret Service.
The rally in Bozeman marked Trump’s first outdoor event since the July 13 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
The former president narrowly avoided death after a bullet fired by a would-be assassin – who was subsequently fatally shot by Secret Service agents – missed his head by millimeters, grazing his ear." RT
