Volodymyr Zelensky announces replacement for toppled Lenin monument
"A pedestal that once supported a Lenin monument in Kyiv that has remained empty ever since 2013 may soon host a statue of a Cossack leader Ivan Mazepa, who is revered by many in Ukraine as a national hero.
A 12-foot-tall red quartzite sculpture of Vladimir Lenin stood on the pedestal at theintersection of two main roads in Kyiv for almost 60 years, until it was toppled during the Euromaidan Uprising. The Euromaidan demonstrations had begun the previous month when then-president Viktor Yanukovych declined to sign an agreement with the European Union, thereby strengthening the country's ties with Russia.
Over the weekend, during a speech commemorating Ukraine's Constitution Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed that a bust of Mazepa should take the place of the toppled Lenin monument in Kyiv. Zelensky wrote on X that Mazepa, who served as head of the Cossack state from 1687 to 1709, deserves a full-fledged monument in the country's capital." msn

Russia Says It Downed Almost 700 Ukrainian Drones In Massive Overnight Barrage As Fuel Shortages Worsen
"Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that the military intercepted at least 660 Ukrainian drones across the country and Crimea, in what shaped up to be one of the most massive overnight aerial assaults since the 2022 invasion began. Drones being sent across the border in the hundreds has become a nightly, highly escalatory affair of late.Anti-air defenses in the capital region were busy, with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirming that at least 47 inbound drones on a were downed starting around 2:30am local time. Sobyanin reported no casualties or structural damage, stating only that emergency services were working at the sites of fallen debris. This month has already witnessed several instances of major airport closures among the capital's four commercial hubs.
If Russia did indeed down around 660 drones, this means there there was possibly over a thousand initially launched, given the intercept rate is typically less than the amount of UAV's which make it through. This has been the pattern from both sides of the border." ZeroHedge

Up to 100,000 feared dead as Venezuela earthquake leaves trail of destruction
"They're trying to find survivors after those two successive earthquakes devastated Venezuela's capital. There were 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude earthquakes and they happened within the space of a minute. They rocked the city in scenes that residents say was reminiscent of a horror movie.
Smoke was seen rising above the skyline, buildings swaying across the capital. At SimoneBolivar International Airport, just north of Carapus, travelers ran for cover as the ceiling gave way.
U.S. President Donald Trump has responded to those earthquakes in Venezuela. In a post on Truth Social, he writes, "The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths. The USA stands ready, willing, and able to help." He says, "I've instructed all our agencies of our government to get ready and to move quickly. We will be there for the our new and great friends. Early
reports are not good." New estimates suggest the true number of fatalities in the Venezuela earthquake could ultimately reach into the tens of thousands." SkyNews

Prominent Russian filmmaker added to Ukraine’s ‘kill list’
"Multi-award-winning Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev has been added to Ukraine’s notorious Mirotvorets (Peacemaker) ‘kill list’ for visiting Crimea.
According to the entry, the director supposedly violated “Ukraine’s territorial integrity” by setting foot in the region that overwhelmingly voted to become part of Russia in a 2014 referendum. Kiev still claims the territory and refuses to recognize the outcome of the vote.
The personal details of Zvyagintsev’s mother, Galina, and his wife, Anna Matveeva, have also been doxed. The filmmaker, who currently resides in France, has been openly critical of Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine.
Taking the podium at the Cannes Film Festival in May, after his film Minotaur was awarded the Grand Prix, Zvyagintsev addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling on him to “stop this carnage.”
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded by saying that the director “has no right” to make such criticisms, as he had never condemned the “bloody massacre that the Kiev regime unleashed in Donbass, starting from 2014, when the war began.”
Launched in 2014 as a nominally independent project, Mirotvorets has been linked to Ukraine’s security services and is notorious for publishing the personal details of anyone remotely deemed an enemy of the Ukrainian state. The website has targeted a wide range of international figures, including American journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson, Hollywood director Woody Allen, former US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the late US diplomat Henry Kissinger, and musician Roger Waters.
Several individuals whose details were made public by Mirotvorets – including journalists and politicians – have been subsequently killed." RT
