UPDATE 1300: According to Berlin police, the suspected attacker had a history of antisemitism and “according to current knowledge, the plan to kill Jews has been developing in him for a few weeks”. In addition to being arrested with a knife, the 19-year-old Syrian asylum seeker was also found with a Qur’an, a piece of paper with verses from the Islamic text, and a prayer rug in his backpack, suggesting a potential religious motive for the attack, police revealed in a statement.
