Romania Storm Like a Hurricane Destroy Homes, Cars in Bucharest
"Strong winds ripped off roofs and uprooted trees, including cars. Several planes landed late in Bucharest. In just a few minutes, the storm struck several areas in Bucharest and Ilfov. Wind speeds measured at meteorological stations reached 100 km/h. In the Bucharest region, meteorological stations recorded winds between 76 and 86 km/h, Baneasa Airport recorded 101 km/h, and the same occurred in Slobozia. This is an extreme phenomenon of atmospheric instability; tornadoes can arise from such storms. In the capital, residents in the streets clung to trees or poles to avoid being swept away by floodwaters. Authorities issued RO-Alert messages to warn the public. The severe weather also affected Ilfov County. The most affected areas were Mogoşoaia, Otopeni, and Voluntari. There, the storm also claimed lives. A 49-year-old woman lost her life. The incident occurred in a residential area, about one kilometer from Otopeni Airport. Strong gusts of wind ripped off the roof of a neighbor's house and threw it onto another house where the victim was staying. Drivers on the A1 highway also had to contend with the storm. A tree fell onto the road, sending cars tumbling over its branches. " WD
