"A concerning new sub-strain of Ebola, believed to have jumped from fruit bats to humans, is fueling a rapidly expanding outbreak across central Africa. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), authorities have recorded more than 200 deaths with an estimated 870 infections, prompting the World Health Organization to escalate its risk assessment from “high” to “very high.”
Since the WHO declared a public health emergency last Sunday, suspected cases have skyrocketed from 246 to around 750, while deaths rose sharply from 65 to 177. This marks the third-largest Ebola outbreak on record." JN
