Italy, late in the evening at 11.12 pm local time (Europe/Rome GMT +1). The quake had a moderate depth of 243 km (151 mi) and was felt over a large region.
According to preliminary estimates the quake might have been felt by over 16.7 million people across Italy. For most people (87%), the quake might only have felt as barely noticeable or weak shaking if at all (intensities I-III).
