Explosions rock Kyiv as Russia launches ballistic missiles at the capital and other regions across Ukraine

At least six explosions were heard in the capital in quick succession around 3 a.m. local time on Aug. 27,. Kyiv Independent editor Chris York reported.
Debris was later found in the city's Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts, with two schools damaged.
Later in the morning, Ukraine's Air Force announced that seven Russian Iskander-M or North Korean-built KN-23 ballistic missiles had been shot down. The total number of ballistic missiles fired at Ukraine wasn't disclosed.

The successful interceptions mark the first time Russian missiles flying on a ballistic trajectory were reported shot down since Aug. 1, when the Air Force reported one downed Iskander or S-400 missile.
Later in the month, aware of the accumulated negative narrative around their inability to shoot down ballistic missiles, the Air Force stopped publishing the number of Russian ballistic missiles fired in their morning reports.
On top of the ballistic missiles, one Onyx anti-ship missile was reported shot down, as well as three low-cost Banderol cruise missiles and 222 drone of different types.
After sunrise, as Kyiv began to go about its Friday, Russia targeted the capital with more jet-powered drones, with explosions and air defense fire audible in the city around 10:30 a.m.
