6.4 Earthquake - 49 km NNE of Kainantu, Papua New Guinea

"Just 9 minutes ago, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Madang, Madang Province,

Papua New Guinea. The tremor was recorded early evening at 7:17 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 110. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kainantu (pop. 8,500) located 50 km from the epicenter, Madang (pop. 27,400) 79 km away, Kundiawa (pop. 9,400) 121 km away, and Lae (pop. 76,300) 140 km away." VD
