"A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast, the U.S. Geological Survey said, prompting authorities to issue tsunami warnings and advisories along parts of the coast.
"Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters," USGS said, "hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km of the earthquake epicenter."
The Japan Meteorological Agency said tsunami warnings were in place for some of the Sanriku Coast, along with lesser advisories and forecasts farther away from the quake's center." msn
