6.0 Earthquake - North Pacific Ocean, 67 km southeast of Shizunai-furukawacho, Hokkaido, Japan

"A very strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean near the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, late in the evening at 10.44 pm local time (GMT +9). The quake had a shallow depth of 43 km (27 mi) and was felt widely in the area. The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would." VD
