"Multiple hospitals have been shut down and placed under quarantine as concerns grow over a potential plague outbreak spreading through Europe. A total of five medical facilities in Siberia have been closed for quarantine following a suspected plague case.
The healthcare centers have reportedly been locked down for a minimum three-week quarantine period after a laboratory worker succumbed to an "unspecified form of plague" in Russia.
The incident occurred at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute on September 25th while she was working with samples, and the situation appears to be escalating as the number of affected hospitals has grown from one to five.A mask mandate - reminiscent of measures implemented during the Covid pandemic - has been put in place at the major aluminum plant in Irkutsk.
Several U.S. politicians are now advocating for a suspension of commercial air travel to and from Russia until the situation becomes clearer. The initial symptoms of pneumonic plague generally appear approximately 4 to 7 days following exposure, and currently around 200 individuals are reportedly under medical observation.
Several hospitals are reported to be affected, including City Clinical Hospitals Nos. 1, 3, and 10, as well as the Ivano-Matreninskaya City Children's Clinical Hospital.
The Moscow Times reported that Alexei Tsydenov, the head of the neighboring republic of Buryatia, confirmed that the woman had died from an unspecified form of plague. Additionally, it has been alleged that ambulances transporting individuals for testing have been accompanied by officers of the FSB, Russia's federal security service." msn
